First boxing defeat
was a KO in the hand of Rustico Torrecampo early in his career (his 12th fight on February 9th 1996). Lost his bid for the congressional seat of his province of South Cotabato in the Philippine general election of May 2007. Incumbent congresswoman Darlene Antonino-Custodio won by a landslide with a final tally of 139,061 votes over Pacquiao's 75,908 votes.
After arriving home from his victorious rematch with Marco Antonio Barrera, he revealed that he is still interested in Philippine politics. Signed an exclusive contract with Philippine television giant GMA Network. He will star in a sitcom and a reality show with them. [2007]
On September 1, 2008,
Pacquiao announced that he will retire from boxing in 2009 and try his luck again in politics by running for a government post in the 2010 Philippine general election. At the same time, he took his oath in joining President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's political party. Founder and president of the People's Champ Movement (PCM), a political party focused on government posts in General Santos City (South Cotabato province) and Saranggani province. His political party, the People's Champ Movement (PCM), was approved by the Philippines' commission on elections as a legitimate entry for the 2010 elections (local and provincial levels).
In addition to boxing,
he is also a movie star, a television show host, movie producer, businessman, a political candidate, and a founder of his own political party. Closely associated with Philippine politicians Lito Atienza, Luis "Chavit" Singson and president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. In 2007, he appeared on a television political ad in support of Singson's bid for the senate.
He founded the Manny Pacquiao Foundation to help uplift the lives of Filipinos as well as people from other parts of the world who encounter problems like poverty and sickness. As such, he has invested in many projects such as a cancer research and treatment center in Mindanao. He has organized related activities such as medical missions, granting scholarships, and promoting environmental awareness.
